06 Oct Round Square International Conference 2015
Everyone in our school’s delegation is very excited! The host school is wonderful and our group has noticed several similarities with Transylvania College, such as being an eco-school and a leadership-oriented school.
The second day of the conference marked the official opening ceremony, where Sonja was our proud and graceful flag bearer. Another highlight of the day was the opportunity to listen to Tim Jarvis, an environmental scientist, adventurer and author. As the keynote speaker, he shared his insightful perspective on leadership.
The third day of the conference started with another inspiring keynote speaker, Kavita Ramdas, who has been an activist for women’s rights for over 30 years. Her message for the students was to look for that thing they care about so much that they simply need to do it. Then, start with small steps and have the courage to speak up and challenge what is not right in our world. Other than this, our delegation embraced the theme of the conference: “Act Today, Change Tomorrow”. The concept of sustainability was thoroughly explained and debated. The discussions were then followed by practicing reliable methods for achieving sustainability, by mapping an issue and discovering its complexity as well as the mindsets which lie underneath it, representing the hidden side of the iceberg. A very joyful event was the school barbecue which involved all the host families, very similar to Transylvania College’s Welcome Brunch. Cristina, Georgia, Katharina, Paula, and Sonja enjoyed a very nice afternoon with their host families.
