01 Oct Round Square Conference
After the first day in Malaysia, a country characterized by a wonderful mixture of cultures, Transylvania College’s Round Square International Conference delegation has had a wonderful second day of visiting Malacca. They were able to explore both the Dutch and the Chinese areas of the city, as well as a splendid private house, converted into a heritage museum. The house belongs to a Baba Nyonya family, which, as both our student and adult delegates have learned very well, is a mixed family, created through the marriage of a Chinese man to a Malay woman. Besides the beauty of this Baba Nyonya heritage museum, it was particularly interesting for the whole group to find out about the living habits and traditions of such inter-ethnic families. According to the members of the group, the most inspiring aspect of Malacca is definitely the way this ancient city is harboring so many cultures and excelling at integrating all of them into the way if functions. Another great part of these two days was meeting some of the other students and teachers attending the conference and taking part in the same pre-conference tour.
