At the beginning of each school year I find myself thinking at the long and rewarding educational journey started 23 years ago by the school founders, Ms Simona Baciu and Dr. Dan Baciu. Each year brings with it something new and exciting, for everyone in our community. For me, personally, the 2015 -2016 academic year is filled with great new opportunities. By taking on the responsibility to teach Business Studies for IGCSE, I add another role to that of Executive Director and mother of 3 children educated at Transylvania College. My new role will help me to get to know our students and to better understand the needs of our teaching staff.

Transylvania College’s entire team, now up to 160 professionals, teachers and admin support,  started a common journey in becoming a “Leader in me” school. It is a journey toward a whole school transformation which teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to teachers, students and parents. It creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child is great and can demonstrate personal leadership. Transylvania College is the only school in Romania joining the programme, together with over 2,000 public, private, charter and magnet schools across 35 countries which have adopted The Leader in Me process.

Our vision is first to increase our students’ self-confidence, to encourage teamwork, initiative, creativity, leadership, problem solving, communication, respect for diversity, and self-directed learning. We also aim to increase teacher pride and engagement. Last, but not least, we are looking forward to greater parent satisfaction and involvement.

The journey will continue over the next 3 years, and each student and parent from our community will be part of the transformation.

The previous academic year was truly an amazing one for our school! Our students had great academic results and earned accolades for extra-curricular activities and competitions. I couldn’t be more proud of our graduates, who were accepted at top universities in Romania (UBB, FSEGA, UMF, UT) and around the world, at reputable universities in England, Australia, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Holland, Belgium, Denmark. Our parents’ massive support and constant feedback helped improve the quality of our services and our efficiency. Our team of teachers and support personnel is stronger then ever, dedicated to continuous learning and to offering the best educational journey for each student.
