05 Mar Elena’s experience at Transylvania College
Elena Cardenas has been on a student exchange at Transylvania College from the 9th of January until the 22nd of February. She comes all the way from Colombia, where she is a Year 11 student at Colegio Los Nogales in Bogotá.
During her time at Transylvania College, she participated in classes along with her new colleagues and has been accommodated at host families.
My experience at Transylvania College and in Romania has been one of a kind: an unforgettable time of my life. I have grown so much after living here for 7 weeks and I don’t mean that in an academic way, but rather in a more personal matter, as a student and individual. The number of people I encountered and met during my time here was definitely what made my exchange so good: from my classmates and obviously my two amazing hosts Maria and Ilinca, to the nice women from the cafeteria, everyone had a smile and a nice thing to say to me, always helpful and warm. I think one of the most important things this exchange gave me was the possibility to look at my life (including my country and school) from a different perspective and with fresh eyes. I think this is very important since it helped me realize the good and bad things in my life, which will definitely lead me into changing and applying everything I learned here in my normal day.
The teachers and the classes have also been as good as they could be since I took some that I don’t ever see in my school, business and sociology, and I must say that I discovered a passion and interest in both subjects. All the teachers were always looking at how to involve and help me understand complicated topics of their course, leading it to me feeling like another regular student of Transylvania College. I got to know so many different places in Romania thanks to my hosts, from skiing in different locations to visiting Dracula’s castles, which definitely helped me get immersed and truly live the Romanian culture and life. I will look back and forever cherish this 7 weeks of my life, to remember special and amazing memories I made here.
